You can also use menu commands to make or change your selections. These commands are found on the Select menu:

Select All: In bitmap mode, selects all of the pixels in a bitmap object on a selected layer. In vector mode, selects all visible objects on all layers. If single-layer editing is on, Select All selects only objects on the current layer. Single-layer editing is covered in Lesson 3.

Deselect: Removes the selection marquee.

Superselect: Selects an object's entire group when one object in the group has already been selected. Grouping, discussed in the next lesson, binds multiple objects together.

Subselect: Selects all of the objects individually within a group selected by the Pointer tool.

Select Similar: Within a single bitmap object, creates an additional selection around colors that are similar to colors in the existing selection. The Magic Wand tool (and, thereafter, Select Similar) can also select transparent pixels or the space outside of a bitmap object as defined by the tolerance setting for the Magic Wand tool.

Select Inverse: Selects all pixels not in the current selection and deselects the currently selected pixels.

Feather: Feathers the edges of the selection.

Expand Marquee: Expands the selection by a set number of pixels.

Contract Marquee: Contracts the selection by a set number of pixels.

Border Marquee: Creates a selection outside the current selection using a set number of pixels. This selection can be filled with a color to create a border around the original selection.

Smooth Marquee: Smoothes the selection by a set number of pixels.

Convert Marquee to Path: Changes your selection to a vector path.

Save Bitmap Selection: Remembers the current selection within the document.

Restore Bitmap Selection: Restores the last-saved selection.

Delete Bitmap Selection: Removes the last-saved selection.
