How This Book Is Organized

This book consists of three parts, each consisting of ideas necessary to understand Adobe Photoshop and web design. We build on these ideas from chapter to chapter, learning as early as the second chapter how to design your first web images.

Part I: Web Design Basics

This portion of the book gets you into the driver’s seat quickly. In this part, you learn what web design is and how Photoshop works. You’ll learn about the Photoshop environment, how to use this environment, and how to define settings to tailor Photoshop to your preferences.

In Part I you’ll also begin building web images applicable to real-world web pages, all the while familiarizing yourself with several key Photoshop features.

Part II: Pulling It All Together

In Part II, you’ll continue building web pages with your newfound knowledge. You’ll learn to create headers, backgrounds, and snazzy images for your web pages.

Part III: Publishing to the World Wide Web

In Part III, you’ll familiarize yourself with how a web editor (in this book Macromedia Dreamweaver) complements your Photoshop work. You’ll learn to pull the web images you’ve designed up to this point into web pages and add content and effects. You’ll also find out where to put your site up for free.
