People often call or write about having to get rid of a line in their document that “just appeared”…wasn’t inserted intentionally. This is a border and it’s generally created because of the settings under Autoformat As You Type, described in Options Settings beginning on page 3-16.
To get rid of an unwanted border, simply select several paragraphs above the border down to several paragraphs below the border, and hit Format Borders and Shading, choose the Borders tab and then None.
That generally works. I have actually requested that people simply select all (Ctrl+A) and remove the borders that way, and then add the borders back where they really want them.
Often, if you try selecting only one paragraph, you’ll try to remove the top border, only to end up with the border having now moved to the bottom.
