Safe Fonts

Microsoft (I believe) came up with a term called “Web-Safe Fonts.” These are fonts that virtually everyone has installed on their PC. If you use a non-standard font on your webpage, it will appear differently for people who do not have that font installed. Some very popular web-safe fonts are Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana and Tahoma.

The same goes for Word and any other Microsoft program. If you have installed graphics programs like CorelDraw, you may have installed additional fonts at the same time. After these fonts have been installed, there is no easy way to distinguish which fonts came from Windows and which ones came from CorelDraw.

So you should be very careful to choose fonts that will likely reside on everyone’s PC. If you use fonts that you believe are nonstandard, then you should use them only in graphics. It will be easier for you to just choose standard fonts.
