Cross-References

Cross-References

As I write this book, I provide cross-references like the one at the end of the previous topic. First, I insert the text for the crossreferenced, numbered item for my Sample Word Macros section. I then want to insert the page number of the same section.

Unfortunately, I have many, many bookmarks in this file, and when I choose to insert the cross-reference for the page number, I need to scroll all the way down to the same location in the crossreference list. I would like it much better if it stayed on the selection that I last used.

When we create long documents—and let’s face it, we rarely use cross-references in short documents—there are going to be many cross-references listed. We’re naturally going to be working in the same area of the document for a period of time. So it doesn’t make sense that the list pops back to the first item in the list again and again.
