Testing


Electrical testing of a device is grouped into three categories.

  1. Voltage testing under both DC and AC conditions,

  2. Output and termination impedance testing,

  3. Timing testing.

Teradyne is a supplier of test equipment. DC voltage testing is done when a steady state logic '1' and logic '0' is driven. AC voltage testing is made when the transmitter is transmitting a vector pattern at a specified frequency. Impedance testing is performed by measuring the amount of current sourced by the transmitter or the amount of current sunk by the transmitter when driving a logic '1' or logic '0'. R = V/I resistance can be calculated given a signal voltage of 1.2 volts .

FuturePlus designs a probe and Agilant provides a logic analyzer. Both are used for logical testing of HyperTransport bus. Packets are captured and observed using the logic analyzer. The board designer must route signals to match up with probe pin layout.
