Chapter 12: Web Access to Terminal Server Applications

Overview

A client platform with a conventional Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) client (such as the Remote Desktop Connection) is not always available for accessing terminal servers. However, many companies need users or administrators to be able to work with applications on terminal servers without prior manual installation of such an RDP client, if at all possible. A suitable solution is to integrate Terminal Services access into Microsoft Internet Explorer. This chapter will cover the following topics:

  • Learn about the various strategies for Web integration of terminal servers. There are two options for this: embedding Terminal Services sessions in Web sites and providing Web icons for launching Terminal Services sessions.

  • Become familiar with the Remote Desktop Web Connection that facilitates access to terminal servers via Internet Explorer.
