XML messaging refers to the sending of messages between computers. An XML message can take the form of a package containing business data, such as an invoice, purchase order, or medical record; or it can take the form of a request for some kind of service from a remote machine. XML messaging is ideal for sending messages because it uses XML to create a structure for passing information from one place to another as platform-independent messages. It does not rely on platform-specific data structures and object invocation calls.
In this part, you will learn about two XML messaging standards: SOAP, the Simple Object Access Protocol; and BizTalk, the universal language for business document interchange.
