Chapter 6

The Extensible Stylesheet Language, or XSL, is a general-purpose resource used to transform and format XML documents. Transform refers to changing one XML document into another document. Format refers to the visual display or rendering of the XML document. You can use an XSL style sheet to transform XML into HTML for display, or one XML structure into another. Transformation is useful if your company uses one schema internally and your suppliers use a different schema: You can employ XSL to translate an XML document that uses one schema into an XML document that uses another schema. The data in each document usually remains the same, but you can also transform it using scripting.
