Summary

 <  Day Day Up  >

In this chapter, you learned about the business problems DirXML is designed to solve. By synchronizing data silos , you can add a high degree of efficiency to your organization.

You also learned that DirXML expresses data in the form of XML documents. The DirXML engine uses rules and filters on the publisher and subscriber channels to reformat the data in a manner that third-party databases can understand. DirXML drivers are used to interface with these databases and synchronize data.

You then learned how to implement a simple DirXML driver: the Delimited Text driver. You learned how to use this driver to read and write eDirectory data to CSV files that can be imported and exported to and from non-LDAP-aware databases.

With the basics down, you then learned how to configure the DirXML eDirectory driver to synchronize users and groups between two eDirectory trees. You also learned how to configure the publisher and subscriber filters to prevent unwanted attributes from being synchronized.

In the next chapter, you will learn how to deploy iFolder, one of Novell's most powerful end- user productivity tools.
