In this chapter, the methods and likelihood of having the cracker crack rocks that is, the likelihood of sending him to prison is discussed. Recent experience with law enforcement and the courts is also discussed. The all-important things that you must do to ensure that you have a case are covered. These include preparation before you suffer a break-in and the handling of evidence after the break-in. Failure to do these things will likely result either in the prosecution deciding that you do not have sufficient evidence of guilt to prosecute, that you have too small a case to bother with, or in the defense attorney convincing the judge or jury of insufficient evidence to convict. Recent decisions and convictions are examined so that you may have some expectation of the results. The results of this author's research in this area, some of it involving interviews directly with the law enforcement officers that you might be working with, is revealed. Some of the forward-looking U.S. states' policy and procedures are examined. The relative preparedness of different law enforcement agencies is examined as well as the parameters that some of them operate under. The topics covered in this chapter include:
