Publish a Slideshow on the Internet with .Mac Slides

If you have a .Mac account, the .Mac Slides option lets you publish a slideshow to your iDisk (storage space on Apple's servers). Other people can subscribe to the slideshow, as explained on the opposite page, and it will appear as a screen saver on their own computers.

Create a .Mac slideshow

1.

Click the .Mac Slides button in the Organize toolbar. If the button isn't there, go to the Share menu, choose "Show in Toolbar," then choose ".Mac Slides." The .Mac Slides button is now in the toolbar.

2.

Select an album in the "Source" pane to use for the .Mac slideshow.

Or select specific photos from the Library or from an album: Command-click on individual photos in the viewing area, or drag a selection around the photos you want to use.

3.

Click the ".Mac Slides" button (left) in the Organize pane.

4.

A message window opens (below). Click the "Publish" button.

Click "Publish" to upload selected photos to your iDisk.

5.

After your photos have been uploaded to your iDisk, click the "Announce Slideshow" button (shown below) to send an email announcement. An automatically generated email contains instructions for viewing your .Mac slideshow. Address the email to one or more friends, then click "Send" in the email message toolbar.

When you publish a .Mac slideshow, it replaces any other slideshow you may have previously published to that .Mac account name.

Subscribe to a .Mac slideshow

Anyone using Mac OS X version 10.2 or later with a fast Internet connection can subscribe to your published slideshow and use it as a screen saver. Here's how to subscribe to a published slideshow:

1.

Open System Preferences, then open the "Desktop & Screen Saver" preferences. Click the "Screen Saver" button. (In earlier versions of OS X, open System Preferences, then click "Screen Effects.")

2.

In the Screen Savers list, choose ".Mac," as shown below-left.

3.

Click the "Options" button, then type the .Mac member name of the person to whose slideshow you want to subscribe.

4.

Place a checkmark next to the "Display Options" you want.

5.

Click OK. Now click the "Options" button again. You'll see the .Mac member name in the list of slideshows. Uncheck the box to the "Public Slide Show," then click OK.

6.

Click the "Test" button. Set the duration slider and close the window.
