Share Slideshows

After you've created a slideshow complete with transitions and music, you might want to share it in some way other than showing it on your computer screen. iPhoto can export a slideshow as a QuickTime movie. The QuickTime movie can be copied to a CD or, if you make the movie small enough, it can be attached to an email message. You can send a slideshow to iDVD to create a DVD that you can send to others. And if you have a .Mac account, you can publish a slideshow on the Internet that other Mac OS X (version 10.2 or later) users can see.

To learn how to publish a .Mac slideshow on the Internet, see page 52.

Export a slideshow as a QuickTime movie

1.

Select a slideshow album in the "Source" pane, or choose an album.

2.

From the Share menu choose "Export…."

3.

In the "Save As" sheet that drops down name your movie and choose a location to save it, then click the "Export" button.

By default iPhoto puts the exported slideshow movie in the Movies folder located in your Home folder, but you can choose any location.

If you select an album in the "Source" pane instead of a slideshow, when you choose "Export…" from the Share menu the "Export Photos" window opens, as explained on pages 6061.

Export a slideshow to iDVD

You can send your slideshows to iDVD where it's easy to create a DVD full of slideshows. Of course, iDVD can also use movies that you create in iMovie, but for now we'll focus on slideshows.

To add your slideshow to an existing iDVD project, open that project before you do Step 3. If you don't first open the iDVD project you want to use, iDVD will automatically open its most recent project.

1.

Open iDVD, create a new project, then choose a design theme.

2.

Select a slideshow in the source pane, or choose an album.

3.

From the Share menu choose "Send to iDVD." The selected slideshow appears in the iDVD menu as a button. To add more slideshows to the iDVD project, choose another slideshow in iPhoto, then send to iDVD.

For more details about sending photos to iDVD, see page 54.
