Create Smart Groups

Now, a Smart Group is a Group that automatically adds contacts to itself according to the parameters you set. Contacts come and go from this Group according to those parameters. For instance, in the example below, you can create a Birthday Group that adds those contacts whose birthdays are within a certain number of days or weeks. Of course, this means you must have the Birthday field on your cards (if not, see page 468).

To create a Smart Group

1.	Single-click on the Action button, circled below, and choose "New Smart Group…." Or hold down the Option keythe + sign at the bottom of the Groups pane becomes a gear wheel; click the wheel.
2.	Name your new Smart Group. Use the menus to choose parameters. It will only take a few seconds of experimenting to understand the possibilities. You can see what I chose in the example below.
3.	Click the + button, circled below, to add more parameters. Click the button to delete an existing parameter.
4.	If you want to be visually reminded when a new contact has been added to the Smart Group, check the box to "Highlight group when updated." The Smart Group name will appear in bold and in color.
