Download and Install Backup

Before you can start using Backup, you must first download it from Apple's Mac.com web site.

1.

Go to the Mac.com web site (www.mac.com) and click the "Backup" icon (the red umbrella) in the web page's sidebar.

2.

Log in using your Mac.com membership name and password.

3.

From the "Backup" page that opens, click the "Download Backup 2" icon (shown below-left) to open another page that contains three columns of downloadable files. In the third column, click the download icon to the right of the Backup name in the list (show below-right). Finally, the "Download Backup" page opens (below).

Tip

Turn off Energy Saver before you use Backup. If your computer goes to sleep, it might interrupt the backup process.

4.

Click the Download link for the version of Backup that is compatible with your version of Mac OS X (circled above).

5.

After downloading is finished, install the software as usual (double-click the .dmg or pkg file and follow the directions).

6.

Find the "Backup" icon in the Applications folder, then double-click it to open the "Backup" window, as shown on the next page.
