Add Photos, QuickTime Movies, and HTML Files to iDisk

HomePage gets all the photos, movies, and HTML files from three folders on your iDisk: the Pictures folder, Movies folder, and Sites folder. That means, of course, that before you start a project in HomePage, you must first copy the photos, movies, or HTML files you want to use to these folders on your iDisk.

  • Log in to your iDisk (see Chapter 6) and drag individual photos or an entire folder of photos from your hard disk to the Pictures folder on your iDisk.

  • Drag QuickTime movies to the Movies folder on your iDisk.

  • If you plan to use external HTML files (created in an HTML editing program) on your HomePage, drag those HTML files to the Sites folder on your iDisk (see pages 290291).

Use images from Apple's Image Library

HomePage provides access to Apple's Image Library in case you don't have pictures of your own to use. If you need a photo while building a site on the following pages, you can select one from iDisk's Image Library folder.

  1. When a HomePage template contains an empty photo cell, click "Choose" to open the "Choose a file" page (shown below).

  2. Select the "Image Library" folder in the first column. Select a category folder from the next column, then choose an image from the last column.

  3. Click "Choose." The selected image appears in the template's photo cell.

To add your own photos or movies to a HomePage template, use this same procedure and choose a movie or photo from the Movies or Pictures folder. Make sure you've copied movies or photos to these iDisk folders, as explained in Chapter 6, so they will be accessible from HomePage.

Tip

Photos to be used in HomePage should be saved in the JPEG format with a resolution of 72 pixels per inch.

To keep image sizes and download times reasonable, use maximum image dimensions of 640 pixels wide and 480 pixels tall.

The "Choose" button in a HomePage template opens the "Choose a file" page.
