138. Ignore an Update

Sometimes the Software Update utility will find software that can be installed on your computer, but that you're not interested in. For instance, there might be an update to iMovie, but you don't use iMovie and don't want to spend the time downloading 80 megabytes of software you won't benefit from. To prevent this iMovie update from appearing in your update list every time you check, you can tell Software Update to ignore it.

1.	Check for Updates Use the Software Update utility to check for updates as set out in 137 Run Software Update . Review the detected updates to decide which ones you want to install and which ones aren't relevant to you.
2.	Select the Update to Ignore Click to select one of the updates you want to ignore. You can ignore only one update at a time.
3.	Ignore the Update Select Ignore Update from the Update menu and click OK on the confirmation dialog box that appears. The update disappears from the list, and won't ever trigger a Software Update launch in the future.
4.	Reactivate Ignored Updates If you want to see your ignored updates again (for instance, if you suddenly develop an interest in video editing and want to try iMovie after all), select Reset Ignored Updates from the Software Update menu. Any updates that you had previously ignored will appear in the list again.
