I am very grateful to the group of talented people that were assembled to make this book a reality. Through their knowledge, dedication, and hard work, this book has become more than I ever thought possible.
The most important acknowledgement must go to my wife, Rose, who put up with me writing all night after working all day. Her unwavering support was the single greatest factor in my ability to complete the book you now hold in your hands. It is my hope she will no longer call herself a computer widow now that the book is finished.
Writing his book allowed me to assemble a team of technical professionals who have helped me make this book more than I thought possible. I had the privilege to be a part of an awesome team during this time. I had an excellent group of technical professionals who reviewed this text and in some cases contributed a great deal more. Foremost is Matthew H. Birkner, whose friendship and dedication helped more than I could ever express here. Jim Thompson for his support, constructive comments, and the time he spent with me regardless of the situation. Derek Yeung for always knowing that little bit extra. Atif Khan who came through when needed. Don Stoddard for his forward-looking contributions. Tom Kunath for his sense of dedication, experience, and the real world contributions he made to this book.
I have to recognize the extraordinary group of publishing professionals who helped guide me through the process. Kim Lew, the Cisco Press Program Manager, who saw something in me I never thought possible. Chris Cleveland, my developmental editor, whose hard work and instinctive corrections added value and polish. Brett Bartow, my acquisitions editor, who always had the time for my questions regardless of how many times I asked. Julie Fairweather, my executive editor, for knowing what my life was like during this time. Amy Lewis, for her generous and cheerful assistance, who helped me assemble a strong base of knowledge. John Kane for keeping me informed and laughing.
A portion of the proceeds from this book will be donated to the Hilltop Christian School Technology Program in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.

I want to dedicate this book to my family for their ever-faithful support and understanding during the many nights and weekends I spent writing. An extra special thank you goes to my wife, Rose, and daughter, Rebekah, who never voiced anything but encouragement and support. I certainly hope that the new tradition of girl s day out continues for them. To my new son, Daniel, who became a part of our family during this time and used his smile to brighten our lives. Without the support of my family I would never have been able to accomplish this book.
I want to say a few words of special meaning to my wife...
