Chapter 8. IGP Routing Protocol Configuration

Everything you have read so far has allowed you to bring a router online, manage the files, manipulate system software, and even configure a direct network connection between two routers. Now the fun starts. Routing protocols are the bread and butter of all complex IP-based networks. Think of a routing protocol as a language that allows the routers to tell each other about different networks and how to get to those different networks.

This chapter begins with an overview of routing protocols, describing what they are and what they are used for. Different methods of implementing routing protocols are explored, and different parts of routing protocols are explained.

After the overview, three different interior gateway routing protocols are examined: RIP, OSPF, and IS-IS. You will also see several examples of configuration on Juniper Networks routers.
