15.7 Working with JTAC

There will come a time when you will need to log a call with JTAC to receive additional help with return merchandise authorization (RMA), advanced troubleshooting, or bug fixes. You can execute the following command in advance to provide more information to the JTAC engineers . Notice that the <save filename > component of the command is optional. Because the output can be lengthy, we suggest that you direct the output to a file as shown below:

 lab@Chicago> request support information <save filename >

This command runs a script that executes all of the following individual commands:

  • show version

  • show chassis firmware

  • show chassis hardware

  • show chassis environment

  • show interfaces extensive

  • show configuration

The show interfaces extensive command will be executed for every configured interface. The show configuration command will not include sensitive data, such as passwords. By having this information readily available when logging a case, you may either paste it into the support request (if logging it via the Web) or e-mail it to the engineers (if logging the request via telephone), if they require the data.
