Chapter 10. BGP Routing Case Studies

In Chapter 9, we discussed the fundamentals of the BGP protocol. We also covered the implementation of BGP in Juniper Networks routers and provided an overview of several BGP configuration statements. This chapter brings certain aspects of Chapter 9 together in the form of case studies. These are meant to help reinforce what has been covered up to this point by examining various characteristics of BGP routing scenarios. There are so many possibilities when it comes to configuration that they cannot all be covered. However, the goal of this chapter is to take the foundation of what we have covered and show it in action.

These case studies will cover common configuration scenarios with various topologies. These should be used as a guide to help you accomplish similar tasks in your network. We know, through the evolution of the Internet, that there are so many vast mixtures of topologies that no single solution works for every scenario. Here, we will concentrate on some fundamental designs and how they can be expanded.
