Table of Contents

Writing a book is an arduous task, and although we the authors get the vast amount of credit for the final product, many peoplein and out of the publication processlead to a successful book.

I want to thank, first and foremost, my wife, Erin, for her amazing patience with me sitting at the dinner table typing away into the night. I'm sure there are a hundred other things I could, and maybe should, be doing.

I also want to thank Karen Wachs, Susan Dunn, and the rest of the staff at Sams for helping us put together what I feel is the best book on the subject.

I also want to thank Marc Zimmermann and Joe Mize who did the technical editing for the book. They definitely helped keep me on the right track and caught the errors that late-night coding produces.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone else who has helped me with, shown me the way on, or given me the opportunity to play with development. From newsgroups and listservers to good employers , it takes a great environment to make a great programmer.

Chris Tacke

Although authoring is something I've always dreamed of, I want to thank Chris for giving us the opportunity to write this book.

I also want to show appreciation to Cori, my wife, who helped endure this effort while we were getting married and she too was producing the largest effort of her professional career.

There have been people along my way (both personal and professional) I want to thank; I would never be here if it weren't for them. My parents are the first of these people that encouraged me early, for it was they who bought my first computer. Next, I want to thank my cousin, Mike Bubb, who's also a computer geek, for giving me many different perspectives, both technical and nontechnical, throughout my life.

Without Rubicon Technologies, I would never have had the same opportunity to learn so much about Windows CE; for that I thank them. Of course I would like to thank the folks at Sams Publishing. Andthis could go on foreverbut lastly, all the industry partners who have further increased my Windows CE knowledge, such as Pocket PC Group at Microsoft (Joel and Vidur), Odyssey Software, and Extended Systems.
