2.6 What Have We Learned?

Items covered in this lesson include:

  • Object selection

  • Cartesian Coordinate System

  • Commands

    • Line

    • Rectangle

    • Erase

    • Undo / U

    • Redo / MRedo

    • Redraw

    • Regen

We began this lesson by describing drafting as "the placing of geometric shapes on paper to represent existing or proposed structures." We've seen how to use the "backbone" of more than half of all geometric structures “ the straight line. We've seen how to draw the line with precision and accuracy using the "backbone" of AutoCAD precision “ the Cartesian Coordinate System.

But if the Cartesian Coordinate System was solely responsible for precision in AutoCAD, the software might never have survived through so many releases. Let's face it, at its best, it can be time-consuming and a bit cumbersome. In Lesson 3, we'll look at some faster ways to draw that, although not replacements for Cartesian coordinates, accent them nicely . Then, in Lesson 4, we'll look at the curved line “ arcs and circles “ to complete the basic structures of drafting.
