the von Restorff effect

the ˜von Restorff effect

Usually one remembers better from the beginning of the list and from the end of the list, also words that are repeated and words that differ in one way or another from the rest. This effect is called the ˜von Restorff effect .

These conclusions are worth noticing, especially if you are a person who writes articles, gives speeches or leads meetings. The consequences of this little memory test are many. We could, for instance, use coloured markers ( highlighters ) to indicate important passages or words in a text. We could put most of the important information at the beginning and at the end, and we could use jokes, imagery and other effects to facilitate learning and remembering.

People who differ from others in the way they dress, behave or look, or if they have an unusual name , are easier to remember than others.
