Chapter 3: Creating Web Pages

Overview

In the previous chapter you created your first web page, and you saw how easy it was to do. You might now be asking yourself, "Surely there must be more to it than this?" Well, Web Matrix makes it easy for us to create simple pages, like our dice game. You already know enough to create simple web pages, but wouldn't it be great to make them look great, and make it possible for users to interact with them? Sure it would, so that's what we'll be covering in this chapter.

In particular we'll be looking at the topics that bring web pages alive:

  • How to design and lay out pages

  • How we can get information from the user

  • Creating web pages that react intelligently to the user

This may sound like a lot to learn, but it's all well within your capabilities. We'll start with a quick look at HTML and the ASP.NET controls so you understand how they work. Then, we'll move into talking about displaying content, capturing user input, and then processing user input.
