CSA Licensing

 < Day Day Up >

The CSA MC product is licensed such that only an authorized number of server and workstation agents can register and be managed by the CSA MC server. These licenses are purchased in blocks of varying size and are added incrementally to the CSA MC to enable support for the additional agents. As agents are installed with the agent kit executable installer, the first task of that remote agent is to register with the CSA MC. When the agent attempts registration, the CSA MC checks to determine whether a license is available for that agent and, if so, allows registration and decrements the available licenses by one.

To view the licensing information on the CSA MC server, choose Maintenance > License Information. The License Information screen, shown in Figure 14-1, displays the license status for your currently running MC server. You can expand each section of the license to view specific license data on desktop agents, server agents, the MC server itself, and analysis engines. By expanding any of these sections, you can display the Product Authorization Key (PAK) code, license file ID, expiration date (demo license), and the number of agents licensed.

The totals display below the licenses in a section titled License Usage Counts. This section enables you to view not only the number of possible agents that can register but also the number of agents that have registered.

The bottom section on the License Information page is Update License Information. In this section, you can add more licenses to the CSA MC deployment as it grows beyond the current capacity. To add a new license, just click Browse and locate the license file provided by Cisco. When the filename and path have populated the text box, click the Upload button. This license will be added and additional agents will be allowed to register.

NOTE

The CSA MC server also requires a license to function, called the VMS server license (CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management Server). This license is not the same as the license required to register CSA agents and will be installed during the CiscoWorks VMS installation process.
