Cisco Devices Supported by Router MC

The Router MC supports only specific routers, and specific routers must be either hub or spoke devices. For instance, the 800, 1700, and 2600 series routers can be spoke devices only. The 3600, 7100, and 7200 series routers can be either hub or spoke devices. The 7400 series router can be a hub device.

Creating Device Groups

Groups are a way to organize routers according to your own organization's needs. Cisco recommends that you create device groups prior to importing devices. Cisco has also included three predefined groups within the Router MC. The predefined groups are Default-1710-eth0, Default-17x0-serial0, and Default-806- spokes .

To create a new group, choose Devices, Create Group, enter the group name , and then click Create.

Importing Devices

There are multiple ways to import devices, and you can import a single device or multiple devices simultaneously . The two methods for device importation are device discovery and configuration file import. Device discovery uses SSH to communicate with a device to import it into the Router MC's inventory. Configuration file import allows for the importation of a single device or multiple devices from a configuration file.

To import, choose Devices, Import. Then, select the importation methods and supply the needed parameters. Regardless of the import method you choose, the Router MC walks you through the steps to import the devices with multiple screens.

When importing devices from a file, ensure that the file extension is .cfg as required. File importation can also use comma-separate value (CSV) files.
