hierarchy
A database structure that is based on the principle of categories and subcategories, typically represented in the form of an inverted tree. Each hierarchy has exactly one master category, typically called the root, and all other categories are subcategories of the root category. Categories can contain subcategories as well as data.
Highly Secure template
A security template that imposes further restrictions on computers it is applied to. Whereas the Secure templates require at least NTLM authentication, the Highly Secure templates require NTLMv2 authentication.
hive
A collection of six or more sets of files that hold registry data. Each hive consists of two files: a data file and a log file.
hop count
A common metric used with routing that measures the networks that a message traverses on a route.
host
A device that is attached to a TCP/IP network.
host ID
The portion of an IP address that uniquely identifies a host on its local TCP/IP network.
host record
The most common record in a DNS zone file (also known as an A, or alias, record). It allows a host's DNS name to be resolved to an IP address.
HOSTS
A static database file that is used to resolve names on TCP/IP networks.
