failure event

An audited event that has been completed unsuccessfully, such as a user failing to successfully log in to a network.



forest

An Active Directory structure that contains all domain trees. The forest shares the same domain configuration but does not share the same DNS namespace. Forests form the security boundary for Active Directory.



forward lookup

In DNS, a name-to-IP address resolution.



forwarder

A DNS server that has been configured to send name resolution requests to another DNS server.



FQDN (fully qualified domain name)

The complete DNS name of a host, including the hostname and all domains that connect the host to the root domain. The FQDN is typically expressed without a trailing period, with the root domain assumed.

The data format for frames that are placed on a network when IPX/SPX is being used.
