Where to Get MySQL

The MySQL Web site (http://www.mysql.com/downloads/index.html) is, of course, the primary place to get MySQL, and it also has a list of mirror sites. Versions are available for Linux and MS Windows , as well as other operating systems. This Web site also has information that is not apparent at the FTP site, so it is considered a better source for beginners .

You will probably need FTP software so you don t have to use your browser. After your Internet connection is open , start a program such as Gftp. (If you are using Linux and Xwindows, check the Internet programs on your start bar, or check under Gnome and X Apps if you are using KDE.) Type in the host as ftp.mysql.com. Alternatively, ftp://ftp.mysql.com/ might work from your browser.

Change directories to get the most current release, which in this case is the /MySQL-3.23 directory. You should see a list of files available for download.

Mysql is also hosted on SourceForge. You might want to check the MySQL Web site for the latest information or version, because things might have changed since this book was published.
