Setup Instructions

Setup Instructions

Set up your computer according to the manufacturer's instructions.

For the exercises that require networked computers, you need to make sure the computers can communicate with each other.

  • The first computer will be configured as a primary domain controller (PDC), and will be assigned the computer account name dc01 and the domain name domain.fabrikam.com. This computer will act as a domain controller, enterprise root Certificate Authority and DNS server for domain.fabrikam.com.

  • The second computer will act as a client workstation in the domain for most of the procedures in this course.

  • The third computer will act as a certificate authority, SQL Server, as a Web server, and as an Exchange server for procedures throughout this book.

  • The fourth computer will act as an Internet firewall for procedures in Chapter 11.

If your computers are part of a larger network, you must verify with your network administrator that the computer names, domain name, IP addresses, and other information used in setting up Windows 2000 as described in Chapter 1 and throughout this book do not conflict with network operations. If they conflict, ask your network administrator to provide alternative values and use those values throughout all of the exercise in this book.
