Appendix A: Installing Microsoft Office Project 2003

Overview

Microsoft Office Project 2003 has two editions: Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003 and Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003. This appendix includes procedures and guidelines for setting up Project (both Standard and Professional versions) as a stand-alone desktop tool.

Project 2003 continues using server-based solutions, as introduced in Microsoft Project 2002. You can use the collaboration features of Microsoft Office Project Web Access 2003 and Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 with Project Professional. Note that Project Server and Project Web Access interaction with Project Standard 2003 are not available; you can only use Project Professional to create and work with project data saved to the Project Server database.

If you connect Project Professional to Project Server, you can use the enterprise features, which include enhanced project standardization through use of the Enterprise Global Template, resource management through the use of the Enterprise Resource Pool, Portfolio Modeler, Resource Substitution Wizard, and Build Team from Enterprise features; and project analysis across an entire organization using Portfolio Modeler, Portfolio Analyzer, and Project Server data views. This appendix will explain some guidelines regarding the setup of Project Server and Project Web Access, and connecting Project Professional 2003 to Project Server. For specific Project Server and Project Web Access setup assistance for small deployment scenarios, refer to the Pjsvr.chm file that can be accessed from Project Server Setup or found on the Project Server CD-ROM.
