Apache

You can download the Apache web server from http://httpd.apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/win32/. Apache is an open -source web server.

Apache is mirrored on several web sites. If you have trouble downloading Apache from this link, you can download it from one of the mirrors listed on the site.

Installing Apache on Windows requires the Windows Installer. Windows 2000 includes the Installer, but Windows 95/98/NT users need to install it. The link for downloading Installer is available on the Apache download page.

To begin the installation process, double-click the Apache installer. This starts the Apache Installation Wizard. Click the Next button. You see the Apache license agreement. Quickly review the license, and then click the Next button to continue. You see an information page. Click Next to continue.

You see the Server Information dialog box, shown in Figure B.6. Enter your details, and click the Next button to continue.

Next you see the Setup Type dialog box, shown in Figure B.7. The Custom setting allows you to choose what parts of Apache you want installed. Most users should choose the Complete setting. Click the Next button to continue. You see the Destination Folder dialog box. Here you specify the folder in which Apache will be installed. I recommend that you keep the default setting, but you can change it if you want to. Click the Next button, and the installation finishes.
