Enterprise Management Frameworks

The enterprise management frameworks are designed for centralized operations with monitoring of multiple systems. Agents are typically deployed on multiple systems. Most frameworks provide a developer's kit, which allows you to extend the agent's monitoring capabilities so that you can provide monitoring in a consistent interface provided by the framework.

Many of the enterprise management frameworks provide platform-specific agents to monitor systems across a heterogeneous environment. They provide a centralized event browser at the management station. This way, operations can be run in a consistent fashion.

IT/O can monitor HP-UX, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, Windows NT, as well as other platforms. CA Unicenter TNG and Tivoli TME also provide agents that can be managed from a centralized console for many different platforms.

ClusterView

ClusterView can monitor HA clusters on HP-UX and NT systems. It provides a consistent interface for receiving events and getting information about HA clusters regardless of whether they are on NT or HP-UX systems. This is useful for administrators, because they do not have to learn a separate tool for each platform.

Monitoring Agents

BMC PATROL agents and MeasureWare agents can run on many platforms. Data collected by these agents can then be analyzed using common tools in a common and consistent way. Each provides agents on most UNIX platforms, as well as on NT. Both products provide developer's kits to extend the functionality and metrics that can be monitored and tracked.
