The primary form of user authentication used by Windows Server 2003.

key

A randomly generated number used to implement advanced security, such as encryption or digital signatures. See also key pair, public key, private key.

key pair

A key that is divided into two mathematically related halves . One half (the public key) is made public; the other half (the private key) is known by only one user.
