If you're a Windows 95 or 98 veteran but Windows 2000 is your first venture onto the NT platform, you might want to start by familiarizing yourself with the system's log-on and log-off procedures (see Appendix B, "Logging On and Logging Off"). A good next stop on your orientation would be Chapter 28, "Using NTFS Security," which explains the file-system choices available to you in Windows 2000 and the special advantages conferred by the NTFS file system.
Finally, whether or not you're responsible for setting up user accounts and security parameters, you should understand how these matters are handled in Windows 2000. You'll find relevant material in Chapter 27, "Implementing Windows 2000 Security."
