Accessing Outlook with a Mobile Device

In Today's corporate environment, mobile employees need to be able to communicate with colleagues and customers as they travel from place to place. Exchange Server 2003 has built-in mobile service called OMA (Outlook Mobile Access) which will enable the ability to access Outlook form the internet to any portable device. OMA is supports a broad range of devices of which includes Microsoft Windows Mobile-based devices, browser-enabled mobile phones, and Exchange ActiveSync .

Data Synchronization with Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync-provides your Outlook data being stored locally on your mobile device, then the device would synchronize the changes to your Exchange Server. Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync will synchronize your email, calendar, and contacts with Pocket PC and Windows Smart Phone devices. There are many sophisticated features including by default being able to download a 0.5KB email to your device. You can view your downloaded attachments by selecting Mark For Download in Microsoft Pocket Outlook on your Pocket PC or Windows Smart Phone device. Your transmissions can be secure since Exchange Server ActiveSync requires the user of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) which provides data encryption of your communications between your device and your Exchange Server.

Data Browsing with Outlook Mobile Access (OMA) 2003 allows you to access you establish a live connection with your Exchange 2003 Server from a WAP (Wireless Access Protocol) Internet device. OMA 2003 supports iMode and Wireless Application protocol (WAP) 2.0 devices. OMA can also send short text messages called SMS (Short Message Service) notifications to users when meetings change or schedule alerts to your mobile device.
