Summary

Crystal Reports is a powerful tool for generating reports. It is so powerful, in fact, that it provides far too many features to describe in any detail here. This chapter only gives a glimpse into Crystal Reports. It shows how to build a relatively simple report and explains how to customize it a little.

See the online help for tips and examples, and for information about specific Crystal Reports objects such as the CrystalReportViewer control and the ReportDocument object. Read a good book on using Crystal Reports for a more tutorial and in-depth presentation.

The chapters in this part of the book explain how to produce graphics. They tell how to draw and fill shapes, paths, text, and images. This chapter explains how to use Crystal Reports to produce text in report format.

Chapter 26 describes a new method for producing graphics introduced in the .NET Framework version 3.0. Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) lets you specify an application’s user interface either in code, by using a WPF form designer, or declaratively by using the XAML language. Much of WPF is dedicated to building controls similar to the ones described in the first part of the book in Chapter 2 and Chapter 9. However, WPF also lets you create at design time graphics such as lines, polygons curves, filled areas, three-dimensional graphics, and other items that more properly belong in this part of the book.
