Q&A

Q1:

In Print Layout view, header and footer text appears dim. Will it print that way?

A1:

No. Header and footer text appears dim because the header and footer areas are not active in Print Layout view by default. If you want to edit your header or footer, double-click it to activate it. The text turns dark. When you are finished, double-click the document text to reactivate it. You'll learn more about headers and footers in Hour 8.

Q2:

I use a high-resolution setting on my monitor, and the text in Word documents is too small to read easily. Will the Zoom feature help in this situation?

A2:

Yes. A small high-resolution monitor may make the text too small if you use one of the higher resolution settings. You can compensate for this by increasing the Zoom setting, although you will lose the benefit of seeing more text on the screen.

Q3:

Can I print Word documents without opening Word?

A3:

Yes. If you have a shortcut to your printer on your desktop, you can drag the document icon from Windows Explorer or My Computer and drop it onto the printer shortcut. If you don't have a printer shortcut on your desktop, open your Printers and Faxes folder (located in your main Start menu), right-drag the icon for your printer onto the desktop, release the mouse button, and choose Create shortcuts here.
