Deleting Styles

You can delete any of the styles you or someone else created; however, Word does not allow you to delete any of the built-in styles. When you delete a style, all the text that was formatted with that style in your document reverts to the style on which the deleted style was based (this is most often the Normal style).

To delete a user -defined style, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Styles and Formatting button in the Formatting toolbar to display the Styles and Formatting task pane. (It doesn't matter where your insertion point is when you issue the command.)

  2. Point to the style that you want to delete in the Pick Formatting to Apply list, click the down arrow to its right, and choose Delete in the drop-down list. (If you don't see the style you want to delete, choose All Styles in the Show drop-down list.)

  3. Click Yes in the dialog box that appears.
