Removing Paragraph Formatting

You learned in the last hour that you can strip the manual formatting that's been applied to a block of text by selecting the text and then pressing Ctrl+Spacebar. The equivalent keyboard shortcut that removes paragraph formatting is Ctrl+Q. If you have applied several different paragraph formats to a paragraph and now want to turn all of them off, it's much faster to select the paragraph and press Ctrl+Q than to turn each one off individually.

This shortcut also comes in handy if you have to patch up a document with sloppy paragraph formatting. To strip the paragraph formatting from an entire document and start over, press Ctrl+A to select the document, and then press Ctrl+Q.

Ctrl+Q does not remove paragraph formatting that is part of a style (a collection of formatting commands). It does, however, remove any paragraph formatting that was added after the style was applied. (You'll learn about styles in Hour 9.)
