INTRODUCTION
Center tabs let you center text over the tab stop, and decimal tabs align text along the decimal point. (Decimal tabs are most useful for typing columns of numbers .) Setting custom center and decimal tabs is exactly the same as setting left and right tabs. If you haven't done so, look over the preceding task to get an overview of working with custom tabs before continuing with these steps.
TIP
Clicking the Show/Hide Button
Click the Show/Hide button on the Formatting toolbar to be able to see where tabs have been inserted in your document.
To insert a decimal tab, display the decimal-tab symbol on the Tab Stop Indicator button, and click in the paragraph where you want to use the tab.
Click at the desired location on the ruler to insert the tab.
Insert any additional tabs in the paragraph. In this example, a left tab was added to the left of the decimal tab.
Again, type your text using the custom tabs as described in steps 7 and 8 in the preceding task.
TIP
Using Bar Tabs
A bar tab creates a vertical line at the tab stop. You can use it to add vertical lines to divide columns of text on your page. In general, however, it's easier to create vertical lines with the Tables feature.
TIP
Why Is My Custom Tab Gray?
If you select multiple paragraphs, any custom tabs that are in some ”but not all ”of the selected paragraphs will appear gray on the ruler. If you move a gray tab, it will apply to all the selected paragraphs when you release the mouse button (and it will turn black). If you delete a gray tab, it will be removed from the paragraphs that contained it.
