Open the Format menu and choose Paragraph to display the Paragraph dialog box.

INTRODUCTION

Line spacing is the amount of space between lines within a paragraph. Word uses single spacing by default, but you can change this setting to double spacing, which is great for rough drafts (you have room to write your edits between the lines), or one-and-a-half line spacing, which can make your text easier to read.

TIP

Using the Keyboard to Change Line Spacing

If you don't like the hassle of displaying the Paragraph dialog box, you can change line spacing with the keyboard instead. Select the paragraphs whose spacing you want to change and then press Ctrl+2 for double spacing, Ctrl+5 for one-and-a-half line spacing, or Ctrl+1 for single spacing.

Word applies the line spacing you chose to the selected paragraphs; click anywhere in the document to deselect the text.

TIP

Repeating Your Last Action

You can press F4 to repeat most actions, a shortcut that is especially useful for formatting. If you have just applied formatting that required going into a dialog box and now want to apply the same formatting elsewhere, just select the desired block of text and press F4 .
