With a document already open , click the New Blank Document button in the Standard toolbar.
A new Word window opens, displaying a new blank document (it is named Document2 because it is the second document you opened in this Word session).
This time, open the File menu and choose New instead of clicking the New Blank Document button.
INTRODUCTION
Each time you start Word, you get a new blank document that has the temporary name Document1 (which you replace the first time you save the document). However, you may at times want to start a second or third document in the same Word session. Word lets you keep multiple documents open at once, each in its own window, so you don't have to close the currently active document before beginning another one.
The New Document task pane opens. Click Blank Document under New at the top of the task pane.
Word starts a new document, just as if you had clicked the New Blank Document button. (See the next task to find out when the File, New command is useful.)
TIP
New Document Names
When you start a new document, its name may be Document2, Document3, and so on. The number in the name does not mean that you have that number of documents currently open ; it just means that you have started that many documents in the current Word session.
