Press Shift+right arrow to select character by character to the right, or Shift+left arrow to select to the left.
Press Shift+Ctrl+right arrow to select word by word to the right, or Shift+Ctrl+left arrow to select to the left.
Press Shift+Ctrl+down arrow to select down paragraph by paragraph, or Shift+Ctrl+up arrow to select up.
INTRODUCTION
Although you'll probably use the mouse to select text most of the time, you may occasionally want to use the keyboard. For example, if you want to select only a few characters , it's usually easiest to use the keyboard. You can also use the keyboard to adjust the size of a selection that you initially made with the mouse. (As mentioned in the preceding task, you can't adjust a selection with the mouse after you've released the mouse button.)
Press Shift+End to select to the end of the line, or Shift+Home to select to the beginning of the line.
Press Shift+Ctrl+End to select to the end of the document, or Shift+Ctrl+Home to select to the beginning of the document.
To select any amount of text, click at the beginning of the block of text, and then Shift+click at the end of it.
TIP
Using Multiple-Key Combinations
With the keyboard methods that involve pressing the Shift and/or Ctrl key with another key, keep the Shift and/or Ctrl key held down as you press the arrow keys repeatedly to continue selecting character by character, word by word, and so on.
