tab

This term has several meanings: Many dialog boxes have tabs across the top. Clicking the tabs displays different sets of options. This term also refers to the character that is inserted in your document when you press the Tab key. Finally, the term tab refers to a tab stop.



target

The destination to which a hyperlink leads. The target might be a location within the current document, or it might be another file or Web page.

task pane

A vertical pane that usually appears on the right side of the Word window and contains information and options associated with a particular Word feature. By default, task panes appear automatically when you perform certain actions, such as searching for text or starting a mail merge.



taskbar

The bar on the Windows desktop (usually at the bottom of the screen) that contains the Start button at one end and the clock at the other. When a Word document is open , a button for it appears on the taskbar.



template

A rough "blueprint" for a document. A template usually contains some combination of formatting and text. Word comes with a wide variety of templates. The Normal template (also called the Blank Document template ) is the default template that Word uses for all new documents unless you specify otherwise . This template contains the formatting for a standard business document (Times New Roman, 12-point font, single spacing, 8.5-by-11 inch paper, and so on).



text box

A small box in a dialog box in which you can type text or numbers .



text wrapping

Refers to the way text flows around an image in your document. Word provides several text wrapping options.



theme

A collection of design elements that gives a document or Web page a particular "look." Themes can include background images, fonts, horizontal lines, bullets and so on.



title bar

The bar across the top of a window that lists the name of the program and/or document that's open in the window.



toggle

A button or keyboard command that you click or press once to turn an option on and again to turn it off.



TrueType font

A font that looks the same onscreen as it does when it prints.
