This symbol ( ) indicates the end of a paragraph. A paragraph symbol is inserted each time you press the Enter key. You can see where the paragraph marks in a document are by turning on the Show/Hide button on the Standard toolbar.
personal menus
The type of menus that you see when personalized menus are turned on (the default). Word watches how you use the program and only includes in the menus the commands that you use the most frequently.
Places bar
The vertical bar on the left side of the Open and Save As dialog boxes that contain buttons for frequently used folders.
point
A unit of measurement for font size. Roughly speaking, the point size of a font measures its vertical height. There are approximately 72 points in a vertical inch. Standard business documents usually use a 10- to 12-point font.
portrait orientation
The document prints so that the short edge of the paper is at the top of the page. This is the default setting.
printer font
A font that resides in your printer. Printer fonts print correctly, but may not look onscreen exactly as they will when printed.
protocol
A set of rules that lets computers agree on how to communicate.
