5.9 Nonstandard Information Field

Messages that transport parameters, namely, CL, CLR, MP, and MS, may optionally contain nonstandard (NS) information. When the nonstandard information field is included, it may contain one or more blocks of data. The first octet in the NS field identifies the number of blocks that are contained in the field. Each nonstandard information block contains the following:

  • A length indicator (one octet) of the block

  • Country code per Recommendation T.35 (two octets)

  • Provider code per Recommendation T.35 (four octets)

  • Nonstandard information (M octets)

In summary, each block contains M i + 7 octets; note that the value of M may be different for each block. Because there are a total of N blocks, the total number of octets in the nonstandard information field may be expressed as

where N is the number of blocks in the NS field, M i is the number of vendor-specific information octets for information block i .
