17.2 Committee T1

Committee T1, formed at the time of AT&T's divestiture, is the telecommunications standards body for the United States. Committee T1 is sponsored by the Alliance for Telecommunications Information Solutions (ATIS) and is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). There were 70 voting members of Committee T1 in 2002.

In addition to Committee T1, which determines policy and direction, the committee contains an Advisory Group and the following technical subcommittees (TSCs):

  • T1A1 : Performance and Signal Processing

    • T1A1.2 : Network Survivability

    • T1A1.3 : Performance of Digital Networks and Services

    • T1A1.5 : Multimedia Communications Coding and Performance

    • T1A1.7 : Signal Processing and Network Performance for Voiceband Services

  • T1E1 : Interfaces, Power and Protection for Networks

    • T1E1.1 : Physical Interfaces and Analog Access

    • T1E1.2 : Wideband Access

    • T1E1.4 : Digital Subscriber Loop Access

    • T1E1.5: Power Systems ” Power Interfaces

    • T1E1.6: Power Systems ” Human and Machine Interfaces

    • T1P1.2 : Personal Communications Service Descriptions and Network Architecture

    • T1P1.3 : Personal Advanced Communications Systems

    • T1P1.5 : PCS 1900

    • T1P1.6 : CDMA/TDMA

    • T1P1.7 : Wideband-CDMA

  • T1S1 : Services, Architectures, and Signaling

    • T1S1.1 : Architecture and Services

    • T1S1.3 : Common Channel Signaling

    • T1S1.5 : Broadband ISDN

  • T1X1 : Digital Hierarchy and Synchronization

    • T1X1.3 : Synchronization and Tributary Analysis Interfaces

    • T1X1.4 : Metallic Hierarchical Interfaces

    • T1X1.5 : Optical Hierarchical Interfaces

The TSC and its subtending working groups normally meet during the same week, four times per year. Additional interim meetings may be held when needed. All meetings are open to nonmembers.

The name of Technical Subcommittee T1E1 has often been confused with the committee's work on transmissions systems related to T1 and E1 carrier. As can be seen from the list of committee names above, the committee's name has nothing to do with T1 and E1 carrier.

Committee T1's offices are at 1200 G Street, NW Suite 500, Washington, DC 20005, Phone: 202-434-8845, Fax: 202-347-7125, Web: http://www.t1.org.
