Campaigns are the bread-and-butter tool of marketing people using your site. By combining the data from the data warehouse and profile-based information, it is possible to put in place some well-targeted activities.

Commerce Server campaigns would typically cover a number of areas, including the following:

• Discounts on specific items

• Direct mail sent to a user's e-mail address

• Embedded advertisement on relevant site pages

By using the Commerce Server Content Selection Framework (CSF) site, content can be modularized so that specific content or advertisement is placed on relevant pages. This can also include displaying products to exploit cross-sell or up-sell opportunities.

Specific advertisement can be created with a number of attributes familiar to marketing professionals, including tools to prevent conflicting ads from appearing on the same page and need of delivery (NOD), which determines how many more ads are remaining from a block advertisement purchase.
